"The Way They Really Finished at US Open in New York"

Owego, NY 8/19 - First let me apologize for misreporting the standings from
the US Open in Owego, New York earlier this week, my information came from a
bad cell phone connection. Riding on borrowed bikes Friday and Saturday night,
Randy improved on his 3rd place finish last year at the US Open in New York. 42
riders began Friday night, with the top 16 point getters advancing to Saturday. It unfortunately was not without controversy, something that Randy seems to be
part of every week, according to some people. The top 3 riders were as follows;
Josh Larson from Monrovia 1st, Randy 2nd, and 12-time Canadian Champion
Bruce Nelson 3rd, (sorry Jimmy).

It seems that last Saturday night at Costa Mesa was quit exciting, and Randy
wasn't even there. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Randy on
what is turning out to be his best season as a professional speedway rider. He
as been consistent to say the least, making each Handicap Main Event at Costa
Mesa this year. Maybe that's the problem, maybe some people just don't want
him to succeed. There was a nice article in the Bakersfield Californian last week,
Thanks Mike. Check out the photo page I have posted some new pictures.

"South Brings Home Civil War Trophy"

Auburn 7/21 - In front of what was described as a extremely hostile North crowd,
the riders representing the South, led by Gary Hicks are bringing home the Civil War
trophy once again.  After leading most of the night, the North Team took the lead after
the "B" Main event. In the "A" Main it would be the Hicks winning and Dukie Ermolenko
3rd to wrap up the battle for the trophy. I will try and get more information and update
this before the weekend is over.

"Jack Milne Cup and My Two Cents"

Costa Mesa 6/13 - Another impressive night of racing was turned in by "The Edge" Charlie Venegas on Saturday night on his way to taking home the "Jack Milne Cup". Charlie was the only rider to win all 3 of his heats and followed that up by winning his semi-final heat, then holding off Sean McConnell in the main event. Along with Venegas (12points) the riders transferring to the semi-finals were: Schwartz (11), McConnell (10), Castro (10), Ermolenko (10), Northrup (9), Oxley (8), Randy (8), Manchester (8) and Estes (7).

The first semi-final saw Schwartz and McConnell advance to compete for the “Jack Milne Cup” in the main event. While it was off to the “Last Chance” race for Northrup and Oxley with Estes headed home. In the second semi-final Venegas continued his winning ways finishing 1st followed by Ermolenko in 2nd advancing to the race for he cup. It was Castro 3rd and Randy 4th on their way to the “Last Chance” event to try and earn a spot in the finals, Manchester wound up 5th and was done for the evening.

The “Last Chance” race got off to a rough start when Northrup, Castro and Oxley all tangled going into turn 1 leaving Randy the only rider upright going into turn 2. Oxley got the worst of it taking a hard fall and staying down until he was able to clear his head. Unfortunately for Castro he got her gate for causing the wreak and was DQ’ed. On the restart Randy got the hole shot but went wide into turn 1 and it was downhill from there when he laid the bike down in turn 1 on the lap 2. Northrup led the rest of the way with Oxley right behind him.

In the main event and to see who would take home the “Jack Milne Cup” Venegas got the hole shot and never looked back after being pressed by McConnell for the first couple of laps. If Venegas continues to gate the way he has started the season it is going to be tough to beat him all year.

Now for my two cents, upon arriving at the track Saturday night there was a definite buzz that seemed to be centered around Randy. Not knowing what it was about I waited until returning home late Saturday night to take a look at this “One List” everyone was talking about. It would be easy for me to launch into an attack on the “One” person who has a beef with Randy; OK maybe it was 2 or 3 people.

Since I started this web page, I am the one who updates it and I make the major decisions on its content. I don't get a chance to go to each and every race but I don't see where all of this hostility is coming from, but I will say this in his defense. Randy has made excellent progress in achieving his goals this season, despite having to deal with a heel that was broken in six places after a wreak in Boise, ID in February ice racing, and adversity each week in the pits, mainly not having the same person helping him in the pits on a regular basis. His brother Rob, who should be helping, has not been allowed in the pits because of an incident that occurred 2 years ago when Rob went over the wall to help his brother, and a few other minor incidents since that night. Rob knows the rules and accepted his punishment.

But after what happened a few weeks ago when one of the Sauer Brothers and Randy tangled up sending Sauer to the ground. It was a member of the Sauer Brothers team that came over the wall and pushed Randy and ended the racing for the night. Here we are 2 weeks later, after a week off, and the same member of the Sauer Brothers team is in the pits for doing the same or in this case more than Rob did 2 years ago and he is allowed back into the pits. I think it is time that the person, and she knows who she is, drop her little beef with Rob and do what is right and allow Rob to return to the pits.

As for all of the other accusations that Randy is a dirty rider and he cheating or just trying to take people out let me say this. Randy can speak for himself; but, Raz Video is there every week videotaping; those tapes are available to the public and can be purchased after the races in the pits. Its not hard to find them; they are located just down from where Randy pits, you know in between Charlie Venegas and Charlie Cooley, who are right next to Sean McDougall and Bryan Thompson who are both from what city? Gee, that’s funny because I heard from somewhere that all Bakersfield riders stick together except for Randy.

"Olympique of Speedway"

Costa Mesa 5/20 - It was championship style racing Saturday night in Costa Mesa, with the Division One riders competing in scratch races all night long. Head-to-head for 3 rounds and the "Top 8" riders advancing to the semi-finals. Brad Oxley led the way with a total of 7 points out of a possible 9 after the heat races. Randy D turned in another solid performance compiling 6 points by finishing 2nd in each of his heat races. Along with Randy, Sean McConnell, Bobby Schwartz, Chris Manchester and Andy Northrup finished with 6 points in 2nd place after the heat races. The final two spots were filled by Charlie Venegas and Ryan Fisher, moving on to the semi-finals.

In the first semi-final it was Oxley and Manchester moving on to the "Scratch Main" with Randy D and Fisher going to the "Last Chance" race. Venegas and Northrup advanced to the "Scratch Main" of the 2nd semi-final with Schwartz and McConnell going to the "Last Chance" race to see who would fill the final spot in the "Scratch Main". In the "Last Chance" race Randy D pulled away from the pack after pushing Schwartz to the outside in turn 2 of the 2nd lap. It was Venegas winning the "Scratch Main" followed by Oxley in 2nd, Randy D 3rd, Northrup 4th and Manchester 5th. The next update will be sooner than 4 weeks, check back soon!!
